Timing belt & water pump replacement
Belts, pulleys, tensioners and water pump
Service Description
Timing belts keep the valve train and the crank/pistons in sync, allowing each cylinder's valves to open at exactly the right time, and while the piston is out of the way. Most modern small to medium petrol and diesel engines have reinforced toothed belts that drive the valve train, lifting the valves in time. While other engines use chains, belts offer simpler replacment, lower maintence cost and decreased fuel consumtion in most of their applications. Two styles of belt are currently in use, dry and wet: Dry belts usually have a general service life of around 50-70,000 miles (differing by manufacturer and specification) and are a replaced along with all belt drive pulleys, tensioners and the water pump (as in many cases this is driven off the belt). Wet belts are similar but are encased within the front of the engine, behind the front timing case, to enable it to be continuously bathed in engine oil. While these belts have superior fuel efficiency, and enable a smaller, lighter engine, in some cases they have been known to deteriorate faster than their dry counterparts. In addition to this, many wet belt systems also include wet belt drive for the engine oil supply pump. As these belts are essential to both timing and lubrication, we would recommend inspection around 35,000 miles and replacement between 45-55,000 miles. Every component we fit to your car meets the exacting standards and specifications set by your vehicle's manufacturer. We never compromise on engine components and pride ourselves in the precision and high standards we maintain on every job we do.
